Forests Work for Tillamook

Working forests play a large role in keeping Oregon and our county green and growing.

Tillamook County’s forests are an essential natural resource. The forestland that covers over 90 percent of the county provides for sustainable harvest of commercial timber as well as a number of other social and environmental values. Tillamook County’s forestlands are among the most productive in the United States and the harvesting and processing of timber is by far the county’s largest industry, supporting a strong local wood manufacturing sector. The timber industry generates over 55 percent of the County’s combined General Fund, Road Fund, and School Fund revenues, along with a substantial share of the revenues of the County’s other taxing districts. It is responsible for over 30 percent of the County’s labor and proprietor’s income, 30 percent of its total employment, and over 70 percent of its manufacturing employment. Working forests also provide valuable watershed protection, fishing, hunting, and other recreational activities.
